Become a part of the Jamboree’s mental health support network, providing specialised assistance to participants experiencing crisis or significant psychological distress. As a Mental Health First Aider, you’ll use your professional expertise and cultural awareness to offer calm, skilled intervention when participants face emotional or behavioural challenges. You’ll work closely with the Listening Ear team and medical staff, stepping in to support difficult or escalated cases that require mental health insight.
During the event, you’ll help participants regain emotional stability, assess their ability to continue safely and happily in the programme, and recommend further support when needed.
Your presence will ensure that vulnerable participants receive compassionate, informed care that respects their wellbeing and cultural background.
Being able to help participants reduce stress and adapt to the Jamboree based on experience related to counseling
Having a good understanding of language and cultural differences
A degree in psychology is desirable; practical skills are highly valued. Applicants with certifications in areas like mental health first aid and other applicable mental health competencies (e.g. social workers, counselors / therapists, crisis intervention specialists, community outreach workers, etc.) are welcome to apply
Having qualifications or experience in psychological crisis management is desired
Having experience in Listening Ear services is preferred
Experience in previous large-scale Scout events is welcomed
Very good level of English – you can communicate effectively at a professional level and participate with confidence in work meetings or in discussions on a wide range of topics work related
Proficiency in French, Spanish, Arabic, Polish or other languages is a strong asset
