Become a part of the Listening Ear Team, offering empathetic, calm, and culturally sensitive emotional support to participants experiencing psychological strain or mental discomfort. In this role, you’ll connect with participants through an online chat box and/or telephone, creating a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where they can share their concerns openly. Through active listening, you’ll help participants feel heard, grounded, and supported.
As the first point of contact for emotional wellbeing, you’ll assess each situation and either provide immediate support or direct the participant to appropriate on-site services when additional assistance is needed.
By remaining attentive, compassionate, and respectful of diverse backgrounds, you will help ensure every participant can access meaningful, understanding support throughout their Jamboree experience.
Being able to help participants reduce stress and adapt to the Jamboree based on experience related to counseling
Having the ability to provide counseling through empathy and active listening in situations of psychological and mental discomfort of the participants
Having a good understanding of other languages and cultures
A degree in psychology is desirable, practical skills are highly valued; applicants with certifications in areas like Mental Health First Aid and other applicable mental health competencies (e.g. social workers, counselors / therapists, crisis intervention specialists, community outreach workers, etc.) are welcome to apply
Having experience in Listening Ear services (especially at previous World or Regional Scout events) is preferred
Proficiency in English (Business Level)
Proficiency in Spanish, French, Polish, Arabic or other languages is a strong asset
