Each year, National Geographic highlights destinations that offer exceptional travel experiences, inspiring travellers to discover new places, cultures and communities. In its Best of the World 2027 selection, the American edition has recognised Poland’s Tri-City for its unique combination of fascinating history, modernist architecture, beautiful Baltic landscapes and a thriving culinary scene.
Located on Poland’s northern coast, Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot each offer their own distinctive character. From Gdańsk’s historic streets and centuries-old maritime heritage to Gdynia’s modernist architecture and Sopot’s seaside atmosphere, the region brings together history, culture and nature in one remarkable destination.
The recognition is particularly meaningful as Gdańsk prepares to host one of the largest international youth educational events in the world. From 30 July to 8 August 2027, the 26th World Scout Jamboree will bring together 50,000 Scouts and volunteers from across the globe on Sobieszewo Island, creating a unique international community on the shores of the Baltic Sea.
For many participants, the Jamboree will be their first opportunity to visit Poland. Beyond the programme activities, international friendships and shared adventures, it will also offer an opportunity to discover a country known for its rich heritage, vibrant communities and warm hospitality.
National Geographic’s recognition puts an international spotlight on the region that will soon become home to the global Scouting community. As preparations for the Jamboree continue, Gdańsk is getting ready to welcome young people from around the world and share the very best of what Poland has to offer.
In 2027, the world will have even more reasons to discover Gdańsk. And for 50,000 Scouts and volunteers, it will become the setting for an unforgettable adventure.
