One Year to Go: Gdańsk Will Welcome the World

One year from today, on 30 July 2027, Gdańsk welcomes the world. Fifty thousand Scouts and volunteers from more than 170 countries will arrive carrying different languages and different life stories. They will go home with friends on five continents.

The Largest Classroom on Earth

The World Scout Jamboree gathers the movement every four years, and no other educational event for young people comes close to its size. Poland hosts the 26th edition from 30 July to 8 August 2027, the first in Europe since Sweden in 2011.

Ten days is long enough to change how a fifteen year old sees the world. A patrol arrives able to name a handful of countries. It leaves with names and faces attached to thirty of them.

What Young People Are Looking For

Young people are looking for somewhere to belong and for reasons to believe the future is worth their effort. Scouting has answered that for 120 years, and a Jamboree answers it on the largest scale we have.

Nothing else in our movement puts fifty thousand young people in one place and asks them to build something together. They cook for each other, run activities in languages they do not share, and work out how to live side by side for ten days. Diplomats spend careers building that kind of understanding. Scouts get there over a shared pot of soup.

120 Years, and Counting

On 1 August 2027, halfway through the camp, we mark 120 years of Scouting. Robert Baden-Powell pitched the first camp on Brownsea Island in August 1907 with twenty boys. One hundred and twenty years later, fifty thousand of us gather in Poland.

Building the Conditions

Our teams have spent three years on the part that never appears in photographs. Site plans, water and power, medical cover, food for tens of thousands of people three times a day, and a Safe from Harm framework that governs how each adult behaves around each young person.

That work makes the rest possible. Thousands of IST volunteers arrive on 27 and 28 July to finish the job, contingents follow on 29 July, and the Opening Ceremony starts everything on 30 July.

Counting Down Together

Across the world, patrols are washing cars to pay for flights and volunteers are reading the roles catalogue for the third time, still deciding.

They are counting the same 365 days we are. One year from today, we light the first campfire in Gdańsk. Everything we do, we do it bravely.
