GDAŃSK, 27 July 2026 – The World Scout Jamboree is the world’s largest educational event for young people. Held every four years in a different host country, it brings together young people from around the globe to develop new skills, experience different cultures, and build international friendships and cooperation across borders. A Jamboree is a unique educational experience. Young people can take part only once in their lifetime, making it the culmination of many years of involvement in Scouting for many participants.

“The 26th World Scout Jamboree is far more than a project of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association. It is a shared endeavour involving everyone who believes that investing in young people is worthwhile. We want participants to return home not only with unforgettable memories, but above all as responsible leaders in their local communities. That is the true purpose of the Jamboree,”

says Martyna Kowacka, Chief Commissioner of the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association.

“This will be a truly significant event in every sense. Significant because of its scale, with tens of thousands of young people travelling to Poland from across the world. Significant because it will bring together future leaders of communities and nations. Above all, however, it is significant because it extends far beyond the Scouting movement. It is a project of national importance and will be one of the most important international events hosted by Poland next year,”

The 26th World Scout Jamboree is hosted by the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association, with the City of Gdańsk serving as the Host City. A temporary Jamboree city will be built on Sobieszewo Island, while parts of the programme will also take place at various locations across Gdańsk and the Pomeranian region. The event will also be open to local residents and visitors.

“Although there is still a year to go before the event begins, preparations have been underway for many years. Our work is focused not only on delivering a well-organised event but also on respecting the needs of the local community and the unique character of Sobieszewo Island. The Jamboree motto – Whatever You Do, Do It Bravely – reflects perfectly Gdańsk’s own motto, Nec Temere, Nec Timide (‘Neither Rashly nor Timidly’). In today’s uncertain world, we need opportunities more than ever for people from different countries, cultures and faiths to come together, build trust and work side by side to make the world a better place,”

Who is behind the organisation of the Jamboree?

Preparing the 2027 World Scout Jamboree is a multi-year project delivered through close cooperation between the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association, the Organising Committee of the 26th World Scout Jamboree, the Polish Government, the City of Gdańsk, the emergency and security services, and numerous public and private sector partners.

Preparations are led by an international team of volunteers working across specialist areas including safety and security, logistics, transport, healthcare, programme delivery, environmental sustainability and communications. The project is delivered in accordance with the standards of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and is subject to extensive planning, review and audit processes used for all World Scout events.

“More than 500 volunteers from around the world are currently involved in preparing the 26th World Scout Jamboree. For the past two years, we have been working side by side with volunteers from the Polish Scouting and Guiding Association, public authorities, local governments and project partners. It is a shared effort bringing together people with diverse experience and expertise, united by one common objective: delivering the event to the highest standards set by the World Organization of the Scout Movement,”

Safety and Security

Ensuring the safety of participants, local residents and visitors requires close cooperation between public authorities, emergency services and organisations responsible for public safety and crisis management. Preparations include transport planning, medical provision, logistics and the operation of the temporary Jamboree city in ways that minimise disruption to everyday life on Sobieszewo Island.

Planning builds on the experience of previous World Scout Jamborees and lessons learned from other major international events. It is also supported by new legislation currently progressing through Parliament, introducing special arrangements for the organisation of the 2027 World Scout Jamboree to strengthen cooperation between all agencies involved in delivering the event safely.

“Ensuring the safety of participants is one of the key priorities in preparing for the 26th World Scout Jamboree. However, an event of this scale also requires coordinated action across transport, logistics, healthcare and public administration. The proposed legislation on special arrangements for the World Scout Jamboree is designed to provide an effective framework for cooperation between all institutions and services involved in planning and delivering the event,”

says Tomasz Szymański, Secretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration and Government Commissioner for the Preparation of the 26th World Scout Jamboree Poland 2027.

An integral part of the safety framework is Safe from Harm, the safeguarding programme required at all World Organization of the Scout Movement events. It includes staff and volunteer training, the creation of a safe environment for participants, and procedures to prevent abuse, violence, discrimination and all forms of harm.

Transport and Logistics

Transport arrangements for the 2027 World Scout Jamboree are based on a dedicated logistics system developed specifically for the event. Its objective is to ensure the efficient movement of participants while minimising the impact on the daily lives of residents of Sobieszewo Island.

Preparations include participant transport, traffic management, public transport arrangements and the logistics required to operate the temporary Jamboree city, all developed in cooperation with the relevant authorities, emergency services and infrastructure operators.

Medical Services

Organisers are developing a comprehensive medical system that will operate in close cooperation with Poland’s State Emergency Medical Services. The system is designed to provide participants with round-the-clock healthcare while minimising any impact on the public healthcare services used daily by residents of Gdańsk and Sobieszewo Island.

Around 30 doctors, together with approximately 120 qualified first responders and first aid providers, will support the event. Eight ambulances with medical crews will be stationed on or near the Jamboree site, while additional automated external defibrillators (AEDs) will be installed close to programme areas.

Most medical cases will be treated on site, with hospital referrals reserved for patients requiring specialist treatment or advanced diagnostics. The medical model has been developed in line with World Organization of the Scout Movement guidance and the experience of previous Jamboree hosts.

Minimising Environmental Impact

Reducing the environmental impact of the 2027 World Scout Jamboree is an integral part of preparations. The event is being planned in accordance with ISO 20121, the international standard for sustainable event management used for some of the world’s largest sporting, cultural and business events.

Measures include sustainable transport planning, waste and water management, and land restoration once the event has concluded. Preparations also recognise the unique environmental value of Sobieszewo Island. Participant movement and programme activities have been designed to protect environmentally sensitive areas, and no programme activities will take place within nature reserves or their immediate surroundings.

An important part of the preparations is ongoing engagement with local residents and regional partners. The Sustainability Team is responsible for coordinating the implementation of ISO 20121 and identifying practical solutions that reduce the environmental and social impact of the event.
