Preparing for a World Scout Jamboree is about more than planning on paper. It is about learning from others, exchanging ideas, and seeing how solutions work in a real event environment.

From 18–26 July 2026, Spejdernes Lejr brought together around 30,000 Scouts, leaders, volunteers, and staff in Hedeland Nature Park, near Roskilde, Denmark, creating the largest Scout camp in the Nordic region. For nine days, the site became a temporary city with its own infrastructure, healthcare, logistics, programme areas, and operational services, all delivered by thousands of volunteers.

As part of the preparations for the 26th World Scout Jamboree Poland 2027, the Jamboree Team, together with delegation of the Polish Police, Fire and Rescue Service, and Border Guard, visited the event to observe operations, exchange experiences, and learn from fellow Scouts.

The visit offered a unique opportunity to experience the Jamboree from behind the scenes. From participant arrivals and the Opening Ceremony to the daily rhythm of camp life, the delegation explored how different operational teams worked together to create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for thousands of participants.

A particular focus was placed on cooperation between organisers and public authorities. Discussions covered safety planning, emergency response, communications, crowd management, and the coordination required to support a temporary community of this scale. Representatives of the Polish emergency services also met with their Danish counterparts, sharing experiences and discussing approaches to delivering major events safely and effectively.

The delegation also explored a wide range of operational solutions, including campsite design, participant services, infrastructure, logistics, sanitation, food services, communications, and waste management. Seeing these systems operating in real time provided valuable insight into how planning decisions shape the everyday experience of participants.

For the health and medical services team, the visit included observing medical facilities and discussing how healthcare services were organised throughout the event. These exchanges provided practical ideas that will support the continued development of medical services for the World Scout Jamboree in Poland.

Beyond operations and procedures, the visit was also a reminder of what makes every Scout event special. Watching thousands of Scouts live, learn, volunteer, and build community together demonstrated how strong operational planning creates the conditions for unforgettable experiences and lifelong friendships.

Every Scout event is unique, reflecting the traditions and culture of its host country. By learning from one another and sharing good practices, we strengthen the global Scout Movement together. The experiences gained during the Spejdernes Lejr 2026 will play an important role in the ongoing preparations for the 26th World Scout Jamboree Poland 2027.
