Programme Department
Operation Area:
Apply by:
30 Nov 2023

Role Description

Job title: Lead of the Scout Camp module, Programme Department

Nature of engagement: Volunteer contract

Duration: From December 2023 until the end of the project in December 2027 or earlier, depending on volunteer availability, but no less than December 2025.

Team size: to be determined in the course of the work

Note. This role is planned for a member of the Polish Scouting & Guiding Association

The Scout Camp module will be devoted to service and camp-in-camp adventure. Through the variety of activities, the Scout Camp module will contribute to achieving the following educational objectives:

  • to spark self-development (practising non-cognitive transferable skills: creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking, adapting to changes, practising Scoutcraft),
  • to learn how to embrace nature and technology in your life and balance online and offline activities,
  • to embrace diversity in all dimensions (arousing curiosity about other cultures, religions, worldviews and opinions, promoting social inclusion of all),
  • to learn how to communicate and collaborate across generations, cultures and religions as a way to bring peace locally and globally (appreciating other people’s competencies, understanding other people’s needs, making good use of different perspectives, promoting partnerships with other social actors – sharing experiences and resources),
  • to build a sense of togetherness in Scouting,
  • to encourage ‘positive activism’, the sense of belonging to civil society and Youth empowerment (not waiting passively for public authorities to address our common problems, but not going against government regulations and initiatives; to learn how to complement the system we live in peacefully).

As a Lead of the Scout Camp module for the World Scout Jamboree, the volunteer will play a crucial role in both the planning and execution stages of activities within the module.

During the planning phase, the Lead will be responsible for developing a comprehensive and exciting programme. This might include activities such as planting a forest, visiting residents of retirement homes, and helping in a shelter for homeless animals, as well as pioneering and having a campfire with Polish scouts. The coordinator would work closely with other team members to ensure the activities are suitable for the participants’ age and skill levels, are safe, and align with the overall objectives of the World Scout Jamboree. If needed, they would also liaise with suppliers for the procurement of necessary equipment and materials and cooperate with allies (social actors, public institutions) in providing learning opportunities for participants. They would also coordinate with safety personnel to establish emergency response procedures.

The Lead would also have a role in training volunteers to assist in the delivery of the module’s programme, ensuring they understand their roles, the safety procedures, and the specifics of the activities they’ll be leading.

During the execution phase, the Lead will oversee the operation of the Scout Camp module Programme. They will manage the programme staff, ensure safety regulations are adhered to, solve any issues that arise, and ensure that the participants are having an enjoyable and educational experience.

In addition to these specific tasks, the Lead would also be expected to embody the values of the Scouting movement, demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to creating a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.

Applicant Profile

  • membership of the Polish Scouting & Guiding Association (ZHP),
  • completed leader’s service in the previous year and an opinion of the relevant Regional Commissioner or Chief Commissioner,
  • positive experience in managing a team at least at a Scout District level,
  • experience in the organisation of major regional or national Scouting and/or civilian events,
  • positive experience in developing a programme for events, at least at a very good level,
  • experience in cooperating with other social actors and public institutions for the sake of a scout programme, especially in conducting community service together with young people,
  • ability to communicate freely in spoken and written English.

Knowledge of the regions adjacent to Sobieszewska Island (Pomeranian Voivodeship, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) and their tourist opportunities would also be a valuable asset, as well as personal participation in international Scouting events (e.g. in the role of patrol leader or IST).

Knowledge and Skills

  • demonstrating a high level of competence and personal culture,
  • ability to work with volunteers and staff of national and regional structures of the Scout Association and other organisations,
  • ability to collaborate and build positive relationships with colleagues,
  • ability to work in a group,
  • achieving the stated objectives,
  • efficiency, motivation, self-reliance, and proactivity, going hand in hand with good organisational skills,
  • emotional intelligence, the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with key partners,
  • dynamic, open-mindedness, willingness to learn, cultural sensitivity,
  • integrity and a strong sense of ethics in all actions and decisions,
  • knowledge of Scouting and the functioning of ZHP and Scouting Worldwide.
