Job title: Lead of Safe from Harm Operations Unit (SHOT), Safe from Harm Department

The role of the Safe from Harm Operations Unit is to work with the other units in the Safe from Harm Department (Listening Ear, Learning and Knowledge Management, and Access and Inclusion) and WOSM’s Safe from Harm team to prepare the Safe from Harm regime and programme for the Jamboree, including Standard Operating Procedures and adult and participant learning, to minimise the probability that Safe from Harm incidents will occur, and to lead the response to any that do occur, including collecting evidence, identifying and interviewing perpetrators, making recommendations about what should happen to them, supporting those who experience incidents, and liaising on Safe from Harm with contingents and other Jamboree departments, as well as external partners such as the police and social services. Record keeping and reporting are also part of the unit’s responsibilities.
The applicant should have experience of Safe from Harm operations at a world or regional Scout event, the ability to maintain composure when dealing with emotionally challenging situations, ability to show empathy to victims and witnesses without becoming emotionally involved, an inquiring and objective mind, and excellent communication and diplomatic skills when dealing with contingents and external partners. In addition, the person should be non-judgmental, open to the cultures of other countries, adaptable and able to understand differences, to enable unbiased assessment and prompt resolution of Safe from Harm incidents.
