Role Description

Job title: Co-Lead, Energy Unit, Jamboree Site Department. 

Nature of engagement: Volunteer contract 

Duration: From March 2024 until the end of the project in December 2027 or earlier, depending on  volunteer availability, but no less than April 2025.  

Team size: To be determined in the course of the work 

The Jamboree Site Department is tasked with the spatial planning of the World Scout Jamboree site on Wyspa Sobieszewska in Gdansk.  

The Jamboree Site Department will coordinate the preparation of the site plan, in collaboration with the Jamboree architect and industry specialists, and will agree on a plan for the built, run and decommissioning phases of the Jamboree Site. The Jamboree Site will be prepared in accordance with WOSM guidelines and consider solutions related to the Jamboree Organization’s environmental obligations. Water, Power, Network, Waste, Warehouse, Tents and Site Layout are the focus areas for the Jamboree Site Department.

The Energy Unit will be responsible for planning the power supply for the Jamboree, designing the power grid, street lighting, outlets and generators.  

Applicant Profile

Applicants from Poland for this role should meet the following formal requirements: 

  • For ZHP Members: Completed leader’s service in the previous year and an opinion of the relevant Regional Commissioner or the Chief Commissioner
  • This role is also open to people who are Polish citizens and are not currently members of the ZHP. 

Applicants from abroad for this role should meet the following requirements: 

  • membership of one of the organisations belonging to the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) 
  • a favourable opinion from the competent international commissioner 

IMPORTANT!
Candidate who will be selected for this role is expected to participate in the next JPT Meeting, which will take place in Gdansk between 19-21 April 2024.

Knowledge and Skills

  • An engineering degree within the area of energy & electricity. 
  • Sustainable approach when it comes to power sources (e.g. solar power)  
  • Experience in power grid designing. 
  • Experience in procurement processes. 
  • Experience in big temporary events. 
  • Knowledge about power generators (Fuel, Hybrid) 
  • Knowledge about street lighting. 
  • Knowledge of power requirements for big events  
  • Demonstrating a high level of competence and personal culture 
  • Ability to work with volunteers and staff of the organization’s international structures 
  • Ability to collaborate and build a positive relationship with colleagues 
  • Ability to work in a group 
  • Achieving the stated objectives 
  • Knowledge of Outlook 365, MS World, Excel, SharePoint operation 
  • Organizational skills  

 An additional advantage will be: 

  • Experience in project management, project planning and time management. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Jamboree Site Department responsibilities (experience from previous Jamborees). 
  • Understanding and base knowledge of the areas within Jamboree Site: Water, Electricity, Network, Waste management etc.  
  • Experience in creating documentation and material BOMs.
  • Experience in planning and managing power supply at big events.  
  • Experience of working in a distributed team. 
  • Experience of working in a constantly changing international environment. 
  • People oriented approach.
