Job title: Accessibility and Inclusion Team Member, Safe from Harm Department

Nature of engagement: Volunteer contract

Duration: From December 2025 until the end of the project in December 2027

Department description: The role of the Safe from Harm Access & Inclusion Section is to work with the other sections in the Safe from Harm Department, relevant Jamboree departments and external stakeholders to create an environment before and during the Jamboree that is welcoming and respectful to all, prevents discrimination, and maximizes opportunities to participate safely and equally in the Jamboree experience.

What you should expect

Section description: The Access and Inclusion Team Member is a vital operational role and a core team player within the Safe from Harm Department. This position is focused on delivering a truly inclusive experience for all participants and staff by ensuring full participation and proactively eliminating barriers.

You will be instrumental in:

  • Planning and Coordinating: Working with multiple departments to integrate accessibility standards during the preparation phase.
  • Adaptive Support: Providing expert, hands-on support, particularly focused on mobility, physical accessibility, and adaptive modifications.
  • Training and Communication: Developing access and inclusion resources and training to empower the International Service Team (IST) and other volunteers.

Responsibilities

  1. Planning, Training, and Multi-Departmental Collaboration
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the overall planning and strategy, reviewing departmental plans (e.g., Programme, Logistics, Facilities) to ensure high standards of Universal Design are incorporated.
  • Multi-tasking & Coordination: Demonstrate the ability to multi-task and work effectively with multiple departments for planning purposes, ensuring seamless integration of access requirements across the entire event.
  • Training Creation & Delivery: Create, coordinate, and help deliver specific access and inclusion training for the IST and volunteers.
  • Communication: Develop clear, simple, and accessible communication materials regarding access procedures, services, and support available to all attendees.

2. Delivering Accessibility and Adaptive Adjustments

  • Disability & Physical Access: Focus on mobility and physical accessibility by conducting site assessments and collaborating with technical teams to ensure safe ramps, clear pathways, and accessible facilities for individuals using wheelchairs or other mobility aids.
  • Individual Adjustments: Work directly with Contingent teams to review individual requests for reasonable adjustments, ensuring specific needs are met where standard solutions are insufficient.
  • Adaptive Solutions: Facilitate the provision of adaptive modifications for program activities, equipment, or communication tools to ensure full engagement for individuals with diverse needs.

3. On-Site Operations and Support

  • Diverse Needs Support: Coordinate support for attendees across all categories, managing cognitive issues (e.g., providing simplified information or guidance), sensory issues (e.g., designating quiet zones), and supporting culture, faith and other dimensions of identity.
  • On-Site Contact & Issue Resolution: Serve as a proactive, responsive point of contact for any on-site access or inclusion issues, working in conjunction with the other teams to quickly resolve barriers and challenges.

Commitments

  • Attend regular Accessibility and Inclusion Unit meetings as well as Safe from Harm Department meetings, which will be mostly virtual with one or two in-person meetings per year.
  • Attend JPT meetings – In person 7 – 9 May 2027 in Gdansk and several virtual meetings before the start of the WSJ.
  • Follow up promptly to communicate by email and slack.
  • Have multiple hours available during the week on multiple days. The workload will increase in the run up to the event.
  • Arrive at the Jamboree site a couple of days before the event and stay one-two days after Contingents leave.
  • Be committed to working in a multicultural, fast-paced environment.

  • Scouting Knowledge: Familiarity with scouting principles and experience in Scout events is highly desirable.

Background Experience

  • Disability & Adaptive Experience: Has proven, hands-on experience in disability or adaptive support, including implementing accessibility standards and coordinating practical adjustments in a real-world setting.
  • Experience at large-scale Scouting events is highly desirable, such as in national or international Jamborees, Moots, or major camps.

  • active membership in the Polish Scouting & Guiding Association (ZHP)
  • completed leader’s service in the previous year and an opinion of the relevant Regional Commissioner or Chief Commissioner (Komendant Hufca / Komendant Chorągwi / Naczelnik ZHP)
  • positive experience of projects at least at regional level (domestic)
  • ability to communicate freely in spoken and written English

Applicants from abroad should meet the following requirements:

  • Active membership in one of the organisations belonging to the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM)
  • a favourable opinion from the International Commissioner
  • positive experience of projects at international level
  • ability to communicate freely in spoken and written English
