Last weekend was an unforgettable experience for many scouts. Intercamp 2024 took place in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland, with around 3,000 scouts participating in a variety of engaging activities.
Intercamp is an annual international gathering of scouts from multiple countries, including Belgium, Canada, Czechia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United States. The event offers a unique opportunity for scouts to engage in outdoor activities, cultural exchange, and community service.
During this year’s Intercamp, young scouts hiked in the Izera Mountains along designated trails, participated in tasks on the rally grounds, and engaged in service activities. They collaborated with the NATURA 2000 “Izerska Łąka” Environmental Education Center to assist the local community, emphasizing the scouting values of service and environmental stewardship.
The theme for Intercamp 2024 revolved around space and human impact on the environment. The programme highlighted four Sustainable Development Goals: affordable and clean energy, responsible consumption and production, life on land, and climate action. Participants learned about sustainable development through STEM and astronomy.
Looking ahead, scouts are invited to another major event in Poland: the 26th World Scout Jamboree in 2027, which will gather approximately 50,000 scouts in Gdańsk. This grand event promises a wide array of activities and programs designed to foster international friendship, cultural understanding, and personal development. The Jamboree will also focus on global issues such as sustainability and peace, providing a platform for scouts to learn and collaborate on solutions for the future.
